Benjamin Freemantle is a New York-based documentary and narrative filmmaker. Originally from Newmarket, Ontario, Canada, Freemantle moved to New York to earn a BFA in Film & Television from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU with honors Summa Cum Laude.

He has been recognized for his directing work with numerous awards and official selections, including an Official Selection to the Academy Award qualifying Bronzelens Film Festival (Mixed Feelings), Award of Merit in the Social Justice category at The Best Shorts Competition (Wishes and Dreams), an Award of Merit from the IndieFEST Film Awards (Squeak), and Best Drama Short at the London Independent Film Awards (Where Are You From Again?). 

Freemantle has worked on the production teams for top industry names such as Jigsaw Productions, Our Time Projects, Truly Original, and Library Films. In 2021, he most recently worked on the Emmy nominated two-part Tiger Woods documentary series called Tiger released on HBO, and the Oscar-shortlisted feature documentary called The First Wave, which was released by National Geographic, Neon, and Participant. 

Freemantle now splits his time between New York City and Toronto, Canada. He’s a huge fan of long walks and espresso.
